Under both EU and US law, copying the content of articles, blogs etc into social media, is actually illegal, except under "fair use". However "fair use" doesn't mean copying more than snippets of articles.
in both jurisdictions, both provide the social media user the ability to quote from articles as long as there is a link to the actual article, blog etc. However that doesn't mean copying large chunks or entire content from other sites.
Effective as of Monday 22nd July 2019 00.01am Athens Time [or 10.01pm London time], any post that has more than one paragraph of another site’s content, will be deemed a breach of EU and US copyright laws.
YMS will deal with these in the following manner.
From this Saturday 20th of July 2019, there will be a grace period of 2 days [48 hours]. Anyone breaching the copyright laws, will be notified by on-site messaging and the member will be advised of this. They will be provided 12 hours to correct the post. Failure to do so will result in the site moderators editing the post.
Beyond the 48 hour grace period i.e. from 10pm London UK time or 00.01am morning Athens Greece time, Monday 22nd of July 2019, any post found on the site that breaches the YMS rules regarding copyright laws, will be automatically edited by the moderators without notice.
I know some people will object, however we all must abide by the law. So it isn't open to negotiation.
DUPLICATE POSTS
Just a thought. If you post something as "everyone", it is in effect a public post. This is regardless of whether its a post in the stream, a collection, a group etc. If you post in a collection as "everyone" and then reshare it to a group as "everyone" and then you reshare it to the stream as "everyone", you are in effect sharing the post 3 times to everyone. So please consider the amount of times you share it ... it will help stop seeing duplicate posts in the streams. Its only a thought for consideration.
Please note that this won't be an issue with the new site.
I don't care if people click on it or not, if I have the link I share it with link. For me it is kind of respecting to owner of it, because it is their credit, I'm only a sharer at that point.
